Brace-Brace… as Jeon Jin-woo Shines Again, But Anderson Steals the Show
K League R14 Review: Suwon FC climb off the bottom as Jeonbuk draw level with Daejeon at the top. FC Seoul win after a long time and usual late drama
K League Round 14Recap:
Round 14 followed a now-familiar K League script — late drama in four of the six matches, and yet another reminder of the league’s unpredictability.
Gangwon FC left it late but dominated the closing stages against reigning champions Ulsan HD, whose only shot on target all game ironically gave them the lead. That slim advantage evaporated in stoppage time, as Gangwon equalised and nearly stole all three points, exposing more late-game fragility that has been an unwanted trait of recent performances.
Elsewhere, Jeju United earned a valuable — if controversial — point at Gimcheon Sangmu via a dubious late penalty. The result offers some relief for under-pressure head coach Kim Hak-beom. Over in Pohang, Gwangju FC bounced back from a missed spot-kick of their own to earn a 1-0 win in the 90th minute. Super subs Choi Kyoung-rok and Park In-hyuk combined well from a late set-piece to deliver the decisive goal.
The weekend closed with a stunning Suwon FC second-half display, capped off by three goals in the final fifteen minutes — all orchestrated by the sensational Anderson Oliveira. His two goals and one assist earned him Player of the Round honours and further stoked speculation around a summer move.
In the earlier fixtures, Jeonbuk Hyundai bucked the trend of slow starts, racing into an early lead with two first-half goals from Jeon Jin-woo — impressing in front of Korean national team boss Hong Myung-bo. Meanwhile, FC Seoul finally snapped their winless run, beating Daegu FC away for their first victory since March 29. For Daegu, the defeat sees them sink to the bottom of the table, with interim boss Seo Dong-won now having lost three of his five league games in charge.
Player and Goal of the Round
Anderson Oliveira (Suwon FC)
Two goals and an assist just pips the brace of Jeon Jin-woo at Jeonbuk. The 26-year-old Brazilian Anderson has been heavily marked and fouled this campaign but his quality still shines bright as undoubtedly the league’s best player. Impossible to pick between the two with the second displaying his dribbling and ability on his weaker foot so will have to get it to that one but judge for your self.
